McGowan Risk Specialists (MRS), formerly Professional Risk Placements, LLC (PRP), was established by Peter A. Wilkens, MBA, CPCU on September 1st, 1996. His goal was to create a wholesale brokerage that would meet the rapidly expanding Professional Liability needs of local and regional retail agencies. The business model was simple: offer premier markets, specialized coverages, product expertise, and value-added service. With that approach, PRP becomes one of the region’s fastest growing Professional Liability specialists.

The McGowan Companies purchased the assets of PRP on July 1st, 2013. Operating under the McGowan Risk Specialists brand, we are now licensed in all 50 states, and are well positioned to service the Professional Liability and Special Risk needs of agencies throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.

McGowan Risk Specialists (MRS), expanded on July 1st, 2014 and added a new CAT & Specialty Property Division (MRS –CAT).

MRS added the CAT & Specialty Property Division to broaden their product offering. MRS – CAT is a wholesale brokerage specializing in the placement All Risk, Wind-Only, Flood, Quake and Mono-Line Terrorism for Small, Middle Market, and Large Commercial property schedules.

MRS – CAT Director is Austin James. Austin comes to MRS with over ten years of experience in the Insurance Industry; Austin is located in the Florida branch office.
